Neil DeGrasse Tyson is a renowned American astrophysicist and science communicator who has a deep interest in human genetics and its implications for human migration. In a recent interview, Tyson discussed the genetic diversity of Africa and its implications for human migration and evolution.

Africa is home to more 1.2 billion humans who hail from different cultures, religions and belief systems. The continent is also the birthplace and home of the smartest human alive anywhere on Earth because of this diversity, so says Dr. Tyson.

Africa, the cradle of humanity

According to Dr. Tyson, the genetic diversity of Africa is extremely high compared to other parts of the world. This is due to the fact that Africa is the birthplace of modern humans. Approximately 200,000 years ago, a small group of humans left Africa and spread throughout the world. As a result, African populations have had more time to develop genetic diversity than other populations.

He believes that this genetic diversity is the result of humans adapting to different environments over time. He states that “Africa is the epicenter of genetic diversity because it’s the oldest place for humans to have lived and adapted to different conditions”. This means that different populations within Africa have developed different genetic traits that are suited to their environment.
