Roland Martin is an American journalist, syndicated columnist, and author. He was born in Houston, Texas, and is the oldest of four children. Martin attended Texas A&M University, and later graduated from Jackson State University with a degree in mass communication.

His career in media started when he began working in radio, becoming the news and public affairs director at KKDA-AM in Dallas. Martin then moved on to become a freelance reporter for NBC and Fox News.

In 2008, he was hired as the senior political analyst for CNN, where he made numerous appearances on CNN programs. He also hosts a nationally syndicated talk radio show, “The Roland Martin Show,” and has authored nine books.

Martin has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the National Association of Black Journalists’ Journalist of the Year award. Martin is a staunch advocate for social justice and is a respected voice on civil rights issues.
