Animated films have been grossing massive profit margins for Hollywood studios and their stars over the years. Queen Latifah has been quietly raking in mega bucks for theatre owners as one of the main stars of Ice Age: Continental drift.
Ice Age, an animated movie franchise juggernaut has grossed $2.8 billion worldwide since first release in 2002. Queen Latifah joined the quadrilogy on its second outing in 2006’s The meltdown.
In fact, since she came on board, the movie franchise has seen its best boxoffice takes. Ice Age: Continental drift, is the second biggest in the series – so no doubt a fourth installment is in the works.
All the main stars of the prior films are back too, Ray Ramano, John Leguizamo and Dennis Leary. This time around though, they came with more star power in the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Aziz Ansari, Nicki Minaj and many more.
Most in Hollywood see such a mega star wattage infusion as proof the franchise is on its last legs. Grossing $850 million worldwide, it seems rumors of its demise may have been grossly exaggerated.
