It is Miriam Makeba’s 81 birthday today and in her tribute Google the world’s leading search engine changed their logo for her. The singer – often lovingly called ‘Mama Africa’ by her fans- was born on March, 4, 1932.

She was the leading supporter of the poor all across Africa and especially in her native South Africa. Miriam was eventually exiled from her country during the apartheid era.

The singer gained worldwide fame in the early 60’s that never waned. The world lost Africa’s mother song on November, 9, 2008.
