Microsoft is ready to kill its Windows messenger platform, used by more than 100 million users worldwide. The Messenger service will cease to exist after March 15.
Microsoft sent out emails and alerts to the users registered with the Instant messenger service. The company said it would send out further updates more frequently as the end nears.
The Silicon Valley juggernaut recently purchased the voip based Skype, from eBay early last year. Spokespeople for Microsoft went on to report that current users could login to Skype with their Messenger password and user.
Windows phone 8 currently doesn’t have a proper Skype app but curiously other Microsoft based cellphones do. Apparently a Skype app is in the works for Windows phone 8 owners.
