Ron Finley is an artist from South Central, Los Angeles and self proclaimed ‘guerilla gardener’. He’s on a mission to spread the word about the benefits of growing one’s own food. He gave a very stirring speech very recently at the TED conference on how important local gardens can be to the community and family unit.
Ron isn’t a biologist or nutritionist but the way he lists the detrimental effects of bad diets on people’s (especially poor minorities in his community of South Central, Los Angeles) health, is well, eye opening.
The artist’s eloquent speech, is a call to action that poor black people everywhere shouldn’t ignore. His presentation is very popular on TED’s site, already picking up some 550, 000 views in only a few days.
